Two women from Bremerton, Heather Marquis and Emily Vranic, were caught stealing mail and using it to take over hundreds of people’s identities and finances. They committed these crimes for five years, stealing personal and financial information like driver’s licenses, credit cards, and bank statements. They used this information to create fake profiles and make money.
Police first found out about their crimes during a car theft investigation in 2024. When officers searched their house, they found piles of stolen mail and documents linking them to identity theft and fraud. Some victims said their driver’s licenses were renewed without them knowing, their credit cards were stolen and used for big purchases, or their mail was taken repeatedly. For example, one victim’s stolen Lowe’s credit card was used to make expensive purchases, and store cameras showed Vranic using it.
The women acted like they couldn’t be caught and were very confident in what they were doing. They even committed federal crimes while being supervised for earlier state crimes. Heather Marquis is in jail waiting for her trial, while Emily Vranic has been released after being charged. Together, they caused over $600,000 in losses to 278 people.
The charges against them are very serious. If convicted, they could face decades in prison for crimes like bank fraud, wire fraud, and identity theft. Federal investigators and local police worked together to find the victims and trace the financial harm caused by this case.
