Russia has proposed a deal to the Trump administration for the U.S. to gain ownership of rare earth minerals in parts of Ukraine controlled by Russia. This proposal was discussed at a meeting in Saudi Arabia, attended by top aides from both countries. The Trump administration has not committed to the deal but has not ruled it out either. Trump expressed openness to the agreement, seeing it as beneficial for economic development and world peace. Putin also showed willingness to offer the U.S. access to rare minerals in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory and Russia itself. The deal could change how Trump views America’s interests in Ukraine and potentially undermine Russia’s goal of dominating the country. Accessing these minerals could be complicated due to land mines and other explosives in the area.
