The United States has resumed intelligence sharing and security assistance to Ukraine after Kyiv accepted a proposal for a 30-day interim ceasefire with Russia. This decision was announced following high-level meetings between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the ceasefire as a positive step toward peace, while the Kremlin has not commented on the agreement. Previously, U.S. support had been in doubt due to tensions between President Donald Trump and Zelenskyy, especially following a heated exchange in February that led to a temporary halt in intelligence sharing. During the talks, both nations emphasized the importance of a long-term peace process, humanitarian efforts, and gratitude for Ukraine’s resilience.

The discussions in Saudi Arabia, led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, also revived plans for a critical minerals deal aimed at boosting Ukraine’s economy and security. Humanitarian topics, such as prisoner exchanges and the return of forcibly transferred Ukrainian children, were key priorities in the peace process. Meanwhile, Russia claimed to have intercepted over 330 Ukrainian drones in what it described as the largest attack on Moscow and surrounding areas since its full-scale invasion began in 2022. Despite this, the talks reflected a concerted effort to lay the groundwork for lasting peace between the nations.
