Thunderstorms that swept across western Washington on Wednesday left several areas dealing with power outages and disruptions. Early Thursday, Seattle City Light reported 211 customers without power, while Puget Sound Energy noted only 30 customers affected by 10 outages later that morning. Among the storm’s impacts, Sound Transit’s Angle Lake Station suffered significant damage, including issues with a track switch, an electrical substation, and a fallen messenger wire. This resulted in the station’s closure and the suspension of 1 Line service to the station, with no timeline available for reopening.
To prepare for power outages, residents are advised to maintain a disaster preparedness kit, secure alternative heat sources, and use generators responsibly. During an outage, sensitive equipment should be unplugged to avoid surges, and food safety measures, such as keeping refrigerator and freezer doors closed, are essential. Battery-powered lighting is recommended over candles for safety, and proper ventilation is crucial when using certain heating devices to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
Residents experiencing outages can report them to local utility providers like Seattle City Light, Snohomish County PUD, Tacoma Public Utilities, Peninsula Light Company, or Clallam County PUD via phone, online platforms, or designated apps. Staying informed and prepared can greatly minimize the impact of such disruptions.
