In a wide-ranging interview with NBC News on Saturday, President Donald Trump addressed several key issues. Regarding the recent Signal group chat incident, where military strike plans were accidentally shared with a journalist, Trump stated he had no intention of firing anyone involved. He dismissed the incident as “fake news” and a “witch hunt,” expressing confidence in National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

On tariffs, Trump showed little concern if foreign automakers raised prices due to the 25% tariffs he imposed on foreign-made vehicles, asserting that American-made cars would benefit from the tariffs. He emphasized that foreign companies might need to produce cars in the U.S. to avoid the levies. Trump confirmed that the tariffs would be permanent, framing them as a fair response to past trade imbalances and unfair practices by other nations.

The president also reaffirmed his commitment to annexing Greenland, stating that he had held real conversations about it and that he would consider doing so without military force. He highlighted the strategic importance of Greenland in terms of international security and U.S. interests, particularly in relation to threats from Russia and China.

Despite concerns that his policies might be causing volatility in the stock market, Trump pointed to polling data showing high levels of optimism among Americans about the country’s direction. Throughout the interview, he maintained that his actions were in the best interest of the United States, dismissing criticisms as baseless and focused on “nonsense.”
