The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning about certain Chinese-made faucets sold on Amazon, stating they may leach harmful chemicals and heavy metals, including lead, into drinking water. The recall follows testing by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), which found that 17 out of 19 tested faucets failed to meet national drinking water standards.
Lead exposure is particularly dangerous for infants, young children, and pregnant women, potentially leading to developmental delays and other health risks. The CPSC advises consumers to stop using the affected faucets immediately and, if necessary, run water for 15 seconds before drinking.
The issue has gained attention in Congress, with lawmakers pushing for stricter regulations on imported plumbing products. Moen, a well-known American faucet brand, has called for action against counterfeit products that closely resemble legitimate brands.
