A 42-year-old man with a violent history is in custody after allegedly attacking a 75-year-old woman in Downtown Seattle. Witnesses reported seeing him near 3rd Avenue and James Street carrying a wooden stick with a metal screw before striking the woman in the face as she waited to cross the street. The blow caused severe injuries, leaving her bleeding heavily as bystanders rushed to help and called emergency services. Real Time Crime Center staff tracked the suspect’s movements on surveillance cameras, enabling deputies to quickly locate and detain him without resistance.
Seattle Fire Department personnel treated the victim at the scene before transporting her to Harborview Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery for significant facial wounds. Authorities confirmed the suspect has a prior felony assault conviction and is designated a “Violent Person.” He was booked into King County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault, with the weapon seized as evidence. Detectives from the Homicide and Assault Unit are now leading the investigation.
