This Sunday, at least 22 people were killed and 24 others were injured after a bus and a truck crashed on Kenya’s main highway connecting Nairobi and Mombasa. The passengers were returning to the coastal city after attending the funeral of their church pastor in western Kenya. Survivors said the bus had stopped earlier for breakfast before the collision happened near Mtito Andei. One passenger said people were screaming and calling for help after the crash, while another said a truck struck the bus, causing it to overturn. Many of the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the crash. Early findings suggest improper overtaking may have played a role, though witness accounts differ on how the collision happened. The tragedy occurred just weeks after another deadly accident on the same highway that killed 17 people. Road crashes remain a major problem in Kenya, where speeding, dangerous driving and poor road conditions have been linked to many serious accidents over the years.
