Seattle police shot and killed a man Tuesday after reports that he was walking near Martin Luther King Jr. Way in South Seattle with a gun. Officers arrived quickly and tried to calm him down, even using a sponge round, but the man pointed the weapon while heading toward a busy area. One bullet broke a nearby apartment window, and someone inside was hurt by flying debris. Police gave the man medical help after he fell, but he later died. The incident caused a school lockdown, stopped light rail service, and closed streets, though police said the public is no longer in danger.
